How Does It work
The Dynatrap DT1050 comes ready to use right out of the box.
All you have to do is choose a location and plug it in.
For the best results, you need to keep this device 24 hours a day.
This will keep the CO2 strong and active.
After running for several days to several weeks the mosquitoes will begin to build-up on the catch basked located at the bottom.
To clean this device, you twist to unlock the base and remove the mosquito trap holder.
It is important that you turn off the device when cleaning.
It’s important to note that if you turn off the device mosquitos won’t be able to fly out.

Another great thing about this mosquito trap is that is has a large coverage area.
You can easily use this trap indoors and outdoors and it will target any mosquitos in a ½ acre range.
It’s also light and easy to move around which makes this process even simpler.

Power Cord
The major disadvantage of this mosquito trap is that it uses a power cord.
The power cord limits the places you can place your mosquito trap.
Also if you need to move it around, the traps will need to be turned off until you can reach a power source.
Large
Another complaint about this trap is that it is on the larger side.
This trap is quite large for smaller rooms or smaller homes and is unsettling.
Loud and Bright
Since this trap can be used indoors it is also quite loud.
If you are using it inside a bedroom or living room, the fan can get quite loud at night.
Another thing is that the light is quite bright and since they shine in every direction there is no protection from it.
This is a small price to pay for not getting bit by mosquitos anymore.

UV Lights Only Last 4 Months
Another downside is that the UV bulbs don’t last very long.
Since they need to stay on all day to be effective, the bulbs only last 3-4 months.

Fan Is Loud
The fan is also loud for some people.

What I Dislike
Vacuum Power
The vacuum on this device can be improved. For larger flies and mosquitoes they can sometimes fly past the vacuum.
This vacuum also surfers where the trap area starts to get full of mosquitoes.
When it’s full the vacuum does loose some power.
Frequent Glue Trap Changes
You need to change the glue traps on this trap often which makes it less effective.
If the glue trap is not changed the mosquitos can try and escape once the machine is off.
This is a downside if you using this to keep mosquitoes out of your home while your gone.

What I Dislike:
Limited Size Options
Unfortunately, this product is quite large. At 12” x 12” this is a rather large bug zapper to have in your home.
I personally would prefer it if they had different sizing options to that you can discretely place them around your home.
Cleaning
Another thing I dislike about this product is how small the bug catcher is.
The unfortunate thing is that the liner is small and now very deep which means that it fills up rather quickly.
While cleaning is rather simple taking out the trap from the machine, it does sometimes get stuck.
Health Concerns
The main issue with using electric bug zappers is bug mist.
When a bug is killed the residual spray when it’s killed can spread insect parts 7 feet.
With this device since it’s so thin, there is not much materials or depth from preventing the bug mist from getting around your home.
Be sure that you don’t place this over any common living, seating, or eating areas to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

Below are the types of mosquito traps:
1. Suction Mosquito Traps
One of the most effective and safest mosquito traps to use indoors is a solution trap.
With a suction trap, when mosquitoes get too close to the trapped they are sucked inside.
Inside they are stored in a chamber where they can’t escape and will eventually die.
2. Mosquito Zappers
Mosquito zappers are one of the most common mosquito traps used.
While they are popular they are not ideal for indoor use.
Although they provide instant kills they are not healthy to use indoors.
The main reasons is bug mist.
Bug mist is the mist that is created when a mosquito gets zapped.
When this happens residual body parts and liquid can spread 7 feet from the location of the trap.
This is a very unhealthy style of trap to use indoors.
It can cuase the spread of bacteria across your home.
I highly recommend avoiding the use of bug zappers inside your home due to the negative health effects.
3. Glue Boards
Another common method of mosquito traps is glue boards.
The glue board traps you are familiar with is most likely the handing strips that you often see outdoors.
While these work they are not very appealing and not ideal for indoors.
There are new products that use glue boards to make mosquito traps safe for indoors.
4. Ultrasonic Mosquito Repellents
Mosquito repellents along with many other animal and insect repellents are boasted as an easy solution to eliminating mosquito problems.
Unfortunately, the guarantees that these products claim have not been proved but rather disproved.
A study found that ultrasonic mosquito repellents had no effect on the presence of mosquitoes.
This study tested 10 unique products, while of course not every product on the market was tested, the technology remains the same for most.
From high-end mosquito repellents to low-end mosquito repellents the results were the same, no effect on mosquitos.
I highly recommend avoiding mosquito repellents at all costs.
They are often an expensive alternative that does not provide any real solutions.
Types of Attractants
When you are using a mosquito trap, the type and number of attractants it uses will impact how effective it is.
Mosquitos are attracted to three things:
- Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
- UV lights
- Heat
For the best results, it is best to use multiple attractants on a trap.
For the safest results indoors, the use of UV lights and Carbon Dioxide are the most effective.
The CO2 will mimic human breath and mosquitoes are attracted to UV lights.
Disadvantages of Mosquito Traps
The main disadvantage of mosquito traps is that they do not target mosquito eggs or larva.
The only kill active flying adults.
It is likely that it will only kill female adults, since female mosquitos are the only type of mosquitos that bite humans.
The other disadvantages of mosquito traps is that they don’t actively target mosquitoes in their habitats.
Whereas mosquito insecticides can be sprayed outdoors to target wherever mosquitoes land.
